Lucien Lyon
Lucien Lyon, born in Paris (2001), lives and works in Brussels.
My artistic practice explores the relationships between youth and learning, brutality and construction.
Through a mixed approach combining painting, sculpture, and installation,
I question the nature of materials and their utility.
I use raw materials from the world of construction like mortar, wood, or plaster, often salvaged.
Loaded with meaning, these materials have a function that I divert and reinvent. Alive, they structure our environment: our walls, our foundations. By reinterpreting them, I seek to create a dialogue between their roughness and a more playful dimension.
My work is rooted in personal references, addressing themes related to adolescence and the archetypes that define me. I explore the idea of construction, both in its materiality and in what shapes our identities.
Thus, my pieces become a kind of playground where our memories and points of reference confront the rawness of the materials that make up our world and ourselves, both individually and collectively.
